Abstract: Thearticlesubstantiatesthe economic essence of state debt. The methods of statistical analysis of the state debt were adapted to determine the tendencies of Ukraine’s state debt for the short-term perspective. The proposals on improving the management of the state debt of Ukraine are substantiated. The issues of statistical estimation of the state debt, the methodological nature of the calculation of individual debt indicators, the definition of general indicators of debt burden on the economy, statistical evaluation of public debt, the analysis of quantitative and qualitative changes in its dynamics were discussed. It was also stated that the statistical analysis of public debt and its impact on the economy requires continuous improvement of research methods, especially in the aspect of territorial and dynamic comparisons, with the aim of developing recommendations for avoiding the adverse effects of government borrowing and debt burden on the country’s economy. Therelevance of the research problem andt he lack of available fundamental development in this direction led to the choice of the topic of the dissertation, its purpose, structure, and primary tasks. The research is based on a systematic approach to the study and analysis of public debt and debt policy. To solve the problems set in the research, general scientific and specific research methods were used, in particular, scientific abstraction, analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, and separate statistical methods, including comparison and grouping, dynamic comparisons, graphical and tabular methods, economic analysis, etc. The theoretical basis for the study comprises the modem theory of public debt, standards of international financial organizations, regulatory and legislative acts which manage the budget and debt policy of the state. The methodological basis of the study is a comprehensive systematic approach to statistical analysis and assessment of state debt. The trend line analysis was used to construct forecasts of the size of state debt. To solve the defined tasks, specific statistical methods were used, in particular, generalization methods, relative and averages, tabular-graphic and statistical programs were used.
