Abstract: To address global food and energy security, as well as climate change, radical transformations in agricultural and land use practices are needed. Numerous advantages in this sense provide the improvement of agricultural production technology and the use of resources that increase the content of organic carbon in the soil, such as organic farming, agroecology, resource-saving agriculture and agroforestry.

Agribusiness is the locomotive of the Ukrainian economy. Ukraine has historically been called the granary of Europe, as it is home to about 25 % of the world’s black soils, known for their high fertility. The country is also the world’s largest exporter of sunflower oil and one of the largest exporters of grain.

Intensification of agriculture, an increase in pressure on land resources, uncontrolled use of chemical agents in conditions of low technological culture lead to deterioration in the quality of soils, a decrease in their fertility, and progress of erosion. All this indicates that the issue of economically efficient and environmentally safe use of agricultural land resources, taking into account environmental factors in their economic assessment is relevant both from scientific and practical points of view.

In conditions of excessive anthropogenic load, ecologically clean soils deserve more attention. They are suitable for growing agricultural raw materials and the manufacture of organic food.

Due to its unique natural resource potential, Ukraine has great opportunities for the development of organic farming. This could enable it to become a powerful producer of environmentally friendly products to meet the needs of both domestic and foreign markets. The presence of a sufficient number of fertile land suitable for production, a favorable climate for agriculture are significant prerequisites for the development of the Ukrainian market for environmentally friendly products.
