Abstract: The article is devoted to the provision of the historical background regarding the occurrence, development, current state of recognition of theory and practice of service design. The content characteristics of service design as innovative concept, methodology and instrument of customer-oriented engineering of diverse types of services were proposed. Dynamic and structural analyses of scientific publications, which are distributed in a SCOPUS scientometric database on the problems and with the use of a service design toolkit, were conducted. The research results showed that the number of publications comprise more than 7 thousands of namings, including 2,5 thousands in the areas of research “Social sciences” and “Business management and accounting”. The main countries and universities, which carry out research, devoted to the application of this methodology, were identified. The bibliographic analysis of the keywords of the publications, distributed in a SCOPUS scientometric database, was carried out using bibliometric methods and using the software product WOSviewer.com. The visual map, which demonstrates the total number and the strength of relationships among 116 keywords, was built. The analysis showed that keywords are presented more than 15 times in total array of 8592 keywords. This provided possibility to identify and describe the subject orientation of four clusters of scientific research, represented in world scientific space: 1) “Service design as universal methodology of engineering” (it encompasses 47 keywords, which characterise the most widespread research areas: IT sales and marketing, financial and banking services); 2) “Service design as human-oriented methodology” (it treats human as the object on which service design is directed, design of medical services and management systems — 29 keywords); 3) “Service design as methodology of the service sector development” (it deals with the quality assessment of existing and design of new types of services — 24 keywords); and “Service design as instrument of innovations and value creation” (it includes the development, implementation and cost estimation of service innovations and service systems; development and testing of business models and product service systems — 14 keywords).
Conducted bibliographic analysis actualizes the need and determines the directions of future scientific research.
