Abstract: The issue of assessing food security at the regional level in the context of economic instability and geopolitical challenges is investigated in this article. The relevance of applying the Consumer Price Index (CPI) as a tool for comparative analysis of food accessibility among the regions of Ukraine is emphasized. The aim of the study is to reveal methodological approaches for the statistical evaluation of food security, with a particular focus on the use of the CPI. The dynamics of the Global Food Security Index for Ukraine and the rates of change in key food security indicators for the period 2015-2022 are analyzed. A key stage of the research involved comparing the growth rates of the CPI for food and non-alcoholic beverages across the regions during the wartime (2022-2024) and pre-war (2019-2021) periods.

The analysis of the Global Food Security Index components for Ukraine demonstrates a clear negative trend from 2020 to 2022, with a decline in the index value and a worsening of the country's position in the global ranking. Ukraine's food security weakened across all key areas — affordability, availability, quality, and environmental stability — with the largest drops in resource resilience and physical access, especially after the 2022 invasion.

The study of the growth rates of the CPI for food and non-alcoholic beverages across the regions of Ukraine revealed significant differentiation. The highest inflation rates were observed in Kherson and Kirovohrad regions, as well as in the city of Kyiv. A significant level of inflation was also recorded in a number of central and western regions.

Conversely, the lowest price growth rates were demonstrated by Odesa, Cherkasy, and some eastern regions, indicating relative stability in supply and consumer demand in these areas.
